Tel Aviv Trend Continues With Knocked Up Mitte Fine Diner
Joseph, new Amo Hotel joint down in Mitte is gearing up for a June opening. The deal with the new joint is that they aim to bring some of Tel Aviv over to Berlin. The German/Israeli concept is headed by originally rooted Tel Aviv-nicks with roots in gastronomy back in Tel Aviv as well as some roots over in Frankfurt. Like a lot of the Mediterranean trend we have seen over the last couple of years, from the original Berlin Israeli joints like Yafo and Night Kitchen, to later iterations like Layla over at the Crown Plaza Hotel, which opened earlier this year, Joseph intends to make sharing a central function in their menu. As for style of joint, it seems like they will aim for the more “high end” of the spectrum, putting them closer to Layla than to Yafo. Will there still be room in this trend to grow? Time will tell. While they claim a June opening, it looks risky as they are still in quite heavy construction mode. The whole hotel project fell somewhat behind schedule as they were roundly pied in the face after posting billboards touting 2019 spring opening. More on the story as it develops.
