Mitte- Nobelhart & Schmutzig

Nobelhart & Schmutzig, the Brutally Local joint that is known as much for its controversy as its food has been the subject of some social media “shit talk” after the owner posted a questionable comment on Facebook. The comment lamented the loss of Anthony Bourdain, celebrity chef and tv show host, who committed suicide just five days ago; and in a “by-the-way manner,” the comment speculated as to the cause of his final act. In the same manner it also managed to promote Nobelhart’s upcoming feature in Bourdain’s television show, Parts Unknown.

This comment seemed to trigger people who were upset at the speculation of Bourdain’s reasoning behind committing the act. While some others were upset by the perceived promotion of the restaurant. Whether the comment was proper, or improper, intentionally controversial or a ham fisted attempt at expression, it is all quite bittersweet. Just two days ago Nobelhart & Schmutzig was named one of the top 100 restaurant in the world, coming in at number 88 in San Pellegrino’s The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Nobelhart issued a general apology for their statement, but it seems that it is continuing to seed more discontent.
